Today was all about reflecting on my previous work. I used the '001 Assembling my Identity' form to do so. It was fairly enjoyable to do, as it forced me to consider my developing interests. On the form, it asks for ten short sentences to describe myself and my working practice. I put:

1) I enjoy experimentation and things going wrong

2) I like to research photographers whose work is similar to mine so I can see what I can do differently

3) I often use effects in conjuncture with subjects to generate meaning

4) I use a digital camera but where I can I prefer to use film because of the colour shift

5) I generally like to keep plans very open to leave room for improvisation, because I feel that spontaneous moments are more genuine than planned ones.

6) I prefer candid portraiture rather than regular portraiture

7) I like photographing patterns, things in 3s, and sometimes I like to shoot things in confusing angles and removing context

8) I try to pay attention to colour schemes because they look great and more professional

9) I like to shoot film because of the limited shots that you have. It forces you to think more critically & artistically

10) I sometimes take photographs with no themes or meaning in mind to see what other people think and what meaning they derive from it.

I am at a stage in my work where I can see improvement from when I started this course, but I an tell that there is a lot more improvement to be made. I am thinking a lot more about composition, colour, subject matter, and methods, but there is still a lacklustre (almost lackadaisical) quality to me work which I feel could be ironed out. My research is often very close to my work, which is useful when I want to broaden my knowledge slightly, but I think that I should research more widely to evolve my style further. Experimentation is a big part of my work. I like it because if the experiment goes wrong, then I can find a way to incorporate it, and if it goes well, then I am happy. I also like to improvise when shooting, because I believe that spontaneity is more genuine than pre-planned things. However, this further plays into the lacklustre thing going on, so I think I could make some plans, but keep them adjustable in case I want to change things.

There wasn't much else that I did work wise this week. I think that I could've done a bit more, but because it snowed a lot, there was no way for me to make my way to uni, therefore I couldn't get much direction. I did however further plan my FMP and generated some ideas, so at least I didn't do nothing. Next week, I plan to get a lot more done.
