Disposable Camera Shoot #2

I wanted this shoot to be very organic and mostly unplanned, so I thought it would be a good idea to use one of my disposable cameras. Composition and any idea of what the photograph may look like goes out of the window when using them, which I think is ideal for the experimental theme I'm employing. This shoot was happening at the same time as the black and white photographs that I was taking. I wanted to have a shoot that represented the way how other people see me, and I thought that a good way to do that was to give the camera to my brother. Since he is an inexperienced photographer, he doesn't keep things like colour, composition, or thirds in mind, which (I predict) will give the photos these split second and spontaneous look.

A photographer who's style I would like this series to resemble a little bit is Richard Billingham. His style seems very amateur, but the way they are shot are fascinating. Given the nature of the person that the photo series is based on (Ray, Billingham's alcoholic father), there would be no way that Richard could set these up, like the photograph of Ray launching the family cat across the room, or him falling out of the chair.

I also wanted to be a little more experimental with this series, so I decided to do a little film souping. I made a hot cup of coffee, and put some bicarbonate of soda in it. Then, I just placed the film canister in the drink. After that, I put vinegar in the concoction, which gave a large reaction due to the bicarb. Hopefully that will do something to the film, but nothing so drastic that we can't see the photographs. That will really throw a spanner in the works.
